The City of Vacaville is seeking an experienced, talented individual to fill the key executive leadership position of Director of Community Development. This position reports directly to the City Manager and serves as a member of the City’s executive management team. The successful candidate will have a broad background in all aspects of urban planning, development and environmental review, building, economic development with a public agency, and a strong track record of success in managing a multi-faceted department.

The new Director will work closely with the City Manager’s Office, while maintaining close working relationships between departments, and will be responsible for a highly capable staff of 16 employees, with an operating budget of over $4.5 million. Highlights of this position and upcoming opportunities include:
  • Completion and implementation of our new Downtown Specific Plan; 
  • Completion and implementation of our new Comprehensive Development Code Update; 
  • Preparation of a new Housing Strategy; and 
  • Implementation of our new Biotech and Advanced Manufacturing Strategies.

  • Validated institutional knowledge in streamlining the various development functions into a single point of management oversight.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, land use planning or a related field and six years of increasingly responsible experience in community  development related activities, including three years of administrative and supervisory experience.
