The City of Vacaville invites applications for the position of Engineering Technician I/II in our Utilities Department. Currently, one (1)  vacancy exists.  This recruitment will also be used to establish a list for possible future use in our Utilities and/or Public Works Department over the next twelve (12) month period.  This position is flexibly staffed and can be filled at any level depending on the qualifications of the candidate.


The Engineering Technician performs a variety of paraprofessional and technical engineering work in the office and in the field.  This vacancy is located within our Utilities Department located at our Wastewater Treatment Facility and typically works on rehabilitiation and repair projects for water and sewer facilities, development and construction of small projects, site maintenance, and data collection from utility assets in the field.

Level II = $4,662.21 - $5,666.92 per month

ABOUT YOU

 

The Ideal Candidate will possess strong AutoCAD skills and have the ability to:

  • Assist with coordination of project development and management of design and construction of small projects;
  • Perform calculations for cost estimates and material quantities for public improvement projects;
  • Verify utility design information and other calculations required for plan preparation;
  • Perform drafting of engineering plans, drawings, maps and exhibits including utilities using AutoCAD;
  • Develop and modify databases for technical information, including the research of products;
  • Perform field work investigation and inspection of existing conditions, and update documents;
  • Evaluate problems or conditions in the field, report findings, and make recommendations for corrective action;
  • Perform specialized data collection activities including installing, calibrating and downloading field equipment such as flow meters;
  • Utilize SCADA software and other monitoring tools and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Engineering Technician I:
Education: One year of education above high school which included any combination of courses such as computer-aided drafting, engineering or industrial technology, and math courses such as algebra, geometry or trigonometry. An Associate's degree in engineering technology, computer-aided drafting, or other related field is preferred.

Experience: One year specialized experience such as an engineering aide, engineering technician, AutoCAD technician, or other related work.

License: Select positions must possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as conditions of initial and continued employment.

Engineering Technician II:
Education: Two years of education above high school which included any combination of courses such as computer-aided drafting, engineering or industrial technology, and math courses such as algebra, geometry or trigonometry. An Associate's degree in engineering technology, computer aided drafting, or other related field is preferred.

Experience: Two years specialized experience performing duties similar to the Engineering Technician I in the City of Vacaville or other related work.

License: Select positions must possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as conditions of initial and continued employment.
