Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). 

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in supervising youth groups in elementary, middle school and high school programs.  Currently there are vacancies in our Youth and Teens work unit primarily responsible for community events, school year and summer youth programs 


Essential Job Functions

(May include, but are not limited to the following)

  • Organize and lead recreation activities including arts and crafts, sports and games;
  • Supervise participants and volunteers during programming hours and activities;
  • Take attendance and assist with record-keeping;
  • Issue, maintain and store equipment and supplies;
  • Interact and communicate effectively with children, parents, caregivers, volunteers and City staff;
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants and volunteers;
  • Responsible for staff supervision, and training (staff meetings, planning and other duties).
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work-related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper, books and documents weighing up to 10 pounds is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum age: 18 years old;
  • Two (2) years or two (2) summers paid or volunteer experience with youth or recreation programs is required;  
  • Applicants are asked to list all paid or volunteer experience on the supplemental application;
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification during paid training;
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s license
  • Ideal candidate is available to work varying hours Monday through Friday between 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
