The Position and Ideal Candidate
The Maintenance Supervisor will assist in the scheduling and supervision of day-to-day field activities of the Public Works maintenance crews, including assigning and reviewing work performed. They will also participate in the performance of a wide variety of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the operation, installation, maintenance and repair of City facilities and equipment.
The Maintenance Supervisor assists in the selection of subordinate employees; prepares performance evaluations; recommends discipline; and, trains, directs, coordinates and monitors the work of Maintenance Workers I, II and III.
The City’s Maintenance Division includes streets, parks, building maintenance and equipment maintenance.
Employment standards include: Completion of high school; three years professional level experience in public works construction or maintenance work, including two years supervisory experience at the leader level; a valid California motor vehicle Class B license and safe driving record; ability to obtain a State Pesticide Applicator’s license within six months of employment.
Desirable qualifications include college-level courses in horticulture, construction management, irrigation, landscape design and plant identification. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, have a high level of integrity, enthusiasm for their work, and an ability to work well with community members, City staff, and vendors.
Specific competencies should include strong interpersonal skills and predisposition for innovation, and the ability to write and communicate verbally with a variety of audiences. This position requires a person who is flexible and able to manage a variety
of projects at one time.
