The City of San José is recruiting for two temporary Network Technician positions to focus on the City’s drive to digital objectives, specifically the resumption of onsite work after the year-long remote work restrictions due to the pandemic. The City requires expertise in the area of hybrid work environments and experience. The incumbent’s primary responsibilities will be to perform assessments, propose designs, and to implement and support city conference rooms setup for hybrid work readiness including Audio Visual (A/V) equipment and network accessibility. Additionally, the Network Technician's role is to proactively and efficiently support the enterprise client environment, which includes the latest Windows Operating Systems (Windows 7 and Windows 10), Office 365 suite, Mobile Devices, and other enterprise software. Primary duties of this individual include day-to day system administration for the desktop hardware and software, Office 365, and mobile devices, as well as resolving end-user help requests. 

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting and setting up Audio/Video systems for small to large rooms including public spaces.
  • Supporting Web Conferencing applications for onsite, remote and hybrid meetings (i.e. Zoom, teams).
  • Setting up, troubleshooting, deploying and maintaining hardware and software for enterprise PCs, printers and peripherals to ITD standards. 
  • Providing support for Windows desktop and office productivity applications such as Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 10, Microsoft Office 365 suite, and enterprise client applications. 
  • Creating and updating desktop images to include the latest Windows Operating system, and enterprise software. 
  • Responding to incoming incidents and/or help requests from end-users via telephone, Intranet, and e-mail in a timely and courteous manner. 
  • Prioritizing and scheduling help desk tickets and resolutions. 
  • Creating and managing Active Directory objects such as users and computers. 
  • Applying drivers, patches and anti-virus/malware updates to the desktop. 
  • Responding to and remediating desktop level security incidents when they occur. 
  • Updating documentation for service desk tickets, knowledge base, system administration procedure, etc. 
  • Evaluating documented resolutions and analyzing trends for ways to prevent future problems. 
  • Performing duties with minimum supervision and making good judgment calls for system issues escalation.

This position is a temporary, benefitted position, with a standard 40 hours per week with an end date of June 30, 2022.

Job Expertise – Demonstrates knowledge and experience with applicable professional/technical principles and practices in any combination of the areas below: 

  • Demonstrates experience in setting up and monitor audio visual equipment, such as projectors, cameras, microphones, and sound system components.
  • Demonstrates experience in audio/video equipment installation/set up of conference rooms.
  • Knowledge of web conferencing and live streaming media.
  • Knowledge of Windows networking such as DHCP, DNS, subnets, gateways, etc.
  • Demonstrates the ability to create automation scripts with PowerShell.
  • Possess working knowledge of VMware VCenter/vSphere.
  • Demonstrates experience creating and updating technical documentation.
  • Demonstrates experience in managing storage and backup.
  • Demonstrates experience in Windows 10 support/management including imaging and software updates/patching.
  • Knowledge of SCCM packaging and deployment.
  • Knowledge of VMWare Workspace One on Mobile Device Management (MDM).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Depending on their qualification, the successful candidate will be hired as a Network Technician I, Network Technician II, or Network Technician III. 

Education and Experience:  

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:  

  • Network Technician I: Graduation from high school or equivalent AND six (6) months of college-level coursework equivalent to 15 semester/22 quarter units or vocational training or technology technician apprenticeship, both covering computer-related work such as computer repair, technical troubleshooting, application support, or other related duties. 
  • Network Technician II: One (1) year of college-level coursework equivalent to 30 semester/45 quarter units or vocational training or technology technician apprenticeship AND one (1) year of experience, both covering computer-related work such as computer repair, technical troubleshooting, application support, or other related duties. 
  • Network Technician III: Two (2) years of college-level coursework equivalent to 60 semester/90 quarter units or vocational training or technology technician apprenticeship AND two (2) years of experience, both covering computer-related work such as computer repair, technical troubleshooting, application support, or other related duties. 

Required Licensing (such as driver's license, certifications, etc.):  

  • Possession of a valid driver's license. 
  • Network Technician II: Possess a valid CompTIA A+ certificate, or equivalent professional, industry recognized certification acceptable to the City. 
  • Network Technician III: Possess a valid CompTIA A+ certification AND valid Microsoft Specialist certification or an equivalent professional, industry recognized certification acceptable to the City.
