Positions & Duties

The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.  In addition to the starting salary, employees in this classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.  

The Airport Department is currently recruiting to fill an Accounts Receivable Accountant vacancy within the Finance and Administration Division.  The incumbent of this position, under the general supervision of the Senior Accountant, is responsible for the timely and accurate generation of Airport invoices and revenue recognition for the Airport.

Duties of the position include: 

  • supervision of two accounting staff, a Senior Account Clerk and an Accounting Technician; 
  • reviewing and approving monthly invoices to ground transportation operators, ground handlers, rental cars, terminal concessionaires, and miscellaneous bill backs; 
  • monthly preparation of late fee invoices, incentive credit memos, and various billing adjustments; 
  • reviewing payment allocations and following up on outstanding charges;
  • updating PROPworks, the Airport’s billing system, based on billing instructions;
  • assisting the Senior Accountant with preparation of accounts receivable memos to the Deputy Director and summarizing information in response to public records or management requests;
  • assisting in the implementation of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) 87 requirements on leases;
  • preparation of the Airport’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR); and
  • other special projects and duties as directed and assigned.

Qualifications

 

Education and Experience 

Accountant I

Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting, or related field, which must include twelve (12) semester units in accounting subjects. 

Accountant II

Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting, or related field, which must include eighteen (18) semester units in accounting subjects AND two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting or auditing experience.

Acceptable Substitution 

Accountant I Experience in the maintenance of financial records, systems or transactions may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.  There will be no substitution for the twelve (12) semester units in accounting subjects.

The candidate must be fingerprinted and qualify under all applicable TSA and Airport regulations.
