Are you looking to have fun in the sun?  Our summer camps may be just right for you.  Come join our team for fun camp games, water activities, field trips, and much, much more.  Summer camps will run from June 7, 2021 – August 6, 2021.  We will be holding mandatory staff training the week of June 1 - 4, 2021.  

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: 
Will work at the City's Summer Camps providing a safe, creative, organized, and fun place for the children in our community.  Part Time Community Service Leaders will also be skilled at supervising groups of children, leading games, sports, and arts/crafts.

DEFINITION
Under direct or general supervision, oversees Community Services activities in connection with a Community Service program, activity or service, and performs other related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Part-Time Community Services Leader  has the responsibility for overseeing established Community Service programs and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. Incumbents are expected to use independent judgment in programs, recreational facility operations, or general office duties, and assist higher-level staff in planning and implementing recreational programs and special events.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED
 Incumbents receive general supervision from a Part-Time Senior Community Services Leader, Part-Time Community Services Coordinator, or Community Services Supervisor.

Ideal Candidate

These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.
 

  • Oversees and supervises recreational programs and activities
  • Maintains safety and program discipline
  • Supervises activities in community parks, community centers, and sports center
  • Provides customer service
  • Responds to requests, complaints, and inquiries from class instructors, rental groups, and the public
  • Ensures the safety of the public and staff by inspecting and maintaining facilities and equipment
  • Monitors facility use; opens, closes, and secures building for events and assists in supervision and preparation of the facility and amenities for patron use
  • Issues and collects recreation equipment and supplies
  • Prepares reports and maintains a variety of logs, records, and files related to assigned activities
  • May perform cashing duties, maintain adequate change, prepare deposits, and balance register
  • May perform general office duties including answering telephones, greeting the public, computer work, including data entry, processing mail, and filing
  • May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker in the event of a disaster or emergency
  • Performs related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Requirements

Sufficient education, training and/or experience to perform the required duties of a Part-Time Community Services Leader.

EDUCATION/TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE:(positions in this class typically require)

  • Any combination of education, training and experience which likely provides the required knowledge and abilities
  • Equivalent to the completion of the tenth (10th) grade
  • Experience providing recreation or leisure services is desirable

    LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (positions in this class typically require)
     
  • Current and valid Basic CPR Certificate and First Aid Certificates.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Pursuant to the California Public Response Code 5164, all applicants for positions involving supervisory or disciplinary authority over a minor must complete and submit a CPR Code 5164
  • Applicants under the age of 18, who are required to attend school, must provide a California Worker's Permit.

    KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Recreation programs and activities offered by the City of Rohnert Park
  • Basic CPR and first aid
  • Safe work practices
  • English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation
  • Basic mathematics
  • Standard office practices and procedures including arithmetic

    SKILL TO:
  • Perform data-entry as required
  • Safely lift and move items such as chairs, tables, and recreation equipment

    ABILITY TO:
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Become familiar with and enforce safety rules, procedures and regulations regarding the use of public facilities
  • Perform manual work requiring physical strength, agility, and endurance
  • Deal courteously with the public under a variety of circumstances
  • Prepare reports regarding work activities
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff
  • Perform basic computer and cash register operations
  • Learn and utilize new technology
