The City of Rancho Cordova's Communications & Public Affairs Department is seeking a student intern to work with the City's Communications Team.  The individual should have a desire to assist with communications, marketing and public relations projects.  The ideal candidate would have strong writing and organizational skills; knowledge of researching and drafting website content; and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.   We hope you consider joining our team.

This position is limited to no more than 25 hours per week and 1000 hours in a fiscal year, July 1 - June 30. Candidates must be enrolled in school during the course of employment.  We are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Depending upon assignment, typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Researching and writing website content and digital news content
  • Monitoring and analyzing website analytics
  • Creating graphics for websites, digital newsletters and social media
  • Other projects, as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:     
Knowledge of: 
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Social Media Channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Nextdoor)
  • Desirable but not mandatory: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Constant Contact, Canva, and Website Content Management Systems 
Ability to:
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Maintain attention to detail and a high level of organization
  • Exhibit proficiency in use of modern office methods and equipment
  • Interact professionally with residents, businesses and other City staff
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:  College coursework and experience related to Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, English and related majors. 

Education:   Must be currently enrolled in six or more units towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the area of assignment.

Experience:  Previous internships for news organizations or Public Relations agencies is desirable.

License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid CA Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

 

Requires the mobility and manual dexterity to work in a standard office environment, use standard office equipment; speech and hearing to communicate in person and by telephone; vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen; strength and agility to lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds; emotional and psychological capability to work alone, concentrate, or have frequent public and/or coworker contact. Some accommodations may be made for some physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodations.
