The City of Pittsburg's Police Department is looking for STUDENT INTERNS to assist with various projects.
 

The Police Department is seeking to prepare and develop qualified high school and college students to enter the field of law enforcement, preferably with the Pittsburg Police Department. The Police Department internships will offer students, who are interested in a possible career in law enforcement, a rewarding and insightful experience by providing an education-based program working in all divisions in the Pittsburg Police Department. Students will work with experienced Police Officers, Community Service Specialists and other civilian employees on a rotational basis, in various assignments.  Students will benefit from a variety of experiences in providing service in support of the department's mission.

About the Police Department
The protection of life and property is the Police Department's highest priority. To this end, the Department is committed to forging an alliance with the residents served by providing police services that are fair, professional, and respectful of the dignity of all individuals. The Operations Bureau is responsible for the management of the Patrol Division and the Traffic Unit. The Patrol Division represents the largest component of the Police Department. The Support Services Bureau is responsible for the management of the Investigations Division, Property/Evidence Division, Code Enforcement Division, Records Division, School Resource Officer Program, and the Gang/Vice Team. The Support Services Bureau also provides in-service training and certified courses to ensure compliance with Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and applicable educational mandates for all sworn and civilian police personnel.

Selected candidates is limited to work up to 999 hours per fiscal year.

The City of Pittsburg is a full-service city following the council-manager form of government. We have about 290 full time employees and about 350 employees total (depending on the season).  Pittsburg is currently organized into the following departments: City Management, Community Development (Building, Engineering, and Planning), Community Services (Housing Authority, Pittsburg Power Company, and the Successor Agency to the former Redevelopment Agency), Economic Development and Recreation, Human Resources, Finance, Police, and Public Works (Operations/Maintenance, Utilities, Facilities, Parks, and Water Treatment). Fire Protection services are provided by the Contra Costa County Consolidated Fire Department.

 Minimum Qualifications:
This position is designed to accommodate an individual who is currently enrolled or has recently completed an academic program, in order to allow for the application of academic theory to a real life work environment.

High School Salary:
  • $13.00 per hour.

College Intern Salary:
  • $14.50 per hour for those who have not completed two years of education.
  • $16.00 per hour for those who have completed a minimum of two years of education.
  • $17.50 - $19.00 per hour for those who have completed a Bachelor's or higher degree.
 Selection Process:

1. 4) The successful candidate who passes the background process will complete new hire paperwork and begin work soon after.
