As a Park Maintenance Assistant, you will perform assignments in our Parks and Urban Forestry Division for the City parks and landscapes. This is a seasonal position that could work up to 40 hours per week with a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year (July 1- June 30). The season depends on the weather and workload, generally early spring to late fall.

This part-time classification is at-will and not covered by the City's Civil Service System. No benefits are afforded, with the exception of participation in the mandatory temporary employee retirement plan and sick leave.

Our Division consists of crews with the following schedules:

  1. Downtown Weekend Crew: 4:00AM-2:30PM Friday-Monday (4 days, 10 hr shift)
  2. Downtown Weekday Crew: 4:00AM-12:30PM Monday-Friday (5 days, 8 hr shift)
  3. Parks Crews: 6:00AM-2:30PM Mon-Tues; 5:30AM-2:30PM Wed-Thurs, and 5:30AM-12:30PM Friday (5 days, varying shifts)
  4. Right of Way Crew: 6:30AM-3:00PM Mon-Tues; 6:00AM-3:00PM Wed-Thurs, and 6:00AM-1:00PM Friday (5 days, varying shifts)
  5. Urban Forestry Crew: 6:30AM-3:00PM Mon-Tues; 6:00AM-3:00PM Wed-Thurs, and 6:00AM-1:00PM Friday (5 days, varying shifts)



Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Cleaning restrooms, empty garbage cans, cleaning picnic sites
  • Removing weeds and trash from parks, landscaped areas and roadways
  • Operate edgers, string trimmer, blower and vacuum
  • Assist in preparing ball fields
  • Clean facilities, perform room setups
  • Plant trees, drag brush, assist with tree work
  • May operate small trucks or utility vehicles

Possession of California Class "C" Driver's license and a good driving record is required.

Sufficient physical strength, ability, coordination and stamina to perform the required duties.
