Do you have a passion for making sure everyone in the community is aware of housing resources? The Community Development Department is seeking a temporary Bilingual Intern in the Housing Division. We will be developing strategies to help reach limited English speakers and other groups who are least likely to apply for our programs.

Our division is responsible for affordable housing programs including the first time homebuyer and housing rehabilitation loan programs. Additionally, we coordinate with various federal, State and local programs to assist the community by providing affordable housing and supportive services at all levels of affordability.

This is a temporary, part-time position. Hours are flexible depending on your availability and the division needs. The project is intended to last two or three months. Working remotely is an option with some field work required to launch the marketing strategy.

Temporary part-time employees are considered to be at-will and are not covered by the Civil Service System. No benefits are afforded to temporary employees, with the exception of participation in the mandatory temporary employee retirement plan.

 

TYPICAL TASKS

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Review and update the City of Napa’s Limited English Proficiency (LEP) Plan
  2. Review the Housing Division’s website and develop/implement revisions to make it more user- friendly with special focus on Spanish speakers and other underrepresented groups
  3. Develop and update marketing plans for various housing programs, including the Housing Rehabilitation Program, with a specific focus on growing outreach efforts to Hispanics and other groups least likely to apply for assistance
  4. Implement marking plan/outreach for the Housing Rehabilitation Program

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Any combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way of gaining the required knowledge and abilities is:

  • Education: A high school diploma or GED equivalent. Currently enrolled in college courses.
  • Experience: Equivalent of one year of public contact experience, including, data entry and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, knowledge of community non-profits in Napa.
  • Language: Bilingual in Spanish is preferred (written and oral).
