Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of patrol and related duties involving the prevention of crime, the protection of life and property and the enforcement of laws and ordinances; conducts investigations, assists in the preparation of cases and testifies in court, serves in specialized departmental roles as assigned; provides information and assistance to the public; and performs related work as required. REQUIRED TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

To be considered, entry level candidates must possess the following:

• High School Diploma.

• Valid California Class C Driver’s License.

• Satisfactory driving record.

• Clean criminal history with no misdemeanor or felony convictions.

• Passed the Pellet B with a T-Score of 48 or higher (Available through the Academy at the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium - Must be submitted with application).

• Passed the WSTB (physical agility) Test with a score of 320 or higher and completed the 1.5 mile run in 16 minutes or less.  (Available through the Academy at the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium - Must be submitted with application). 

• Completion of a POST Certified Basic Police Academy and college level course work in criminal justice or a related field is desirable.  

To be considered, lateral candidates must possess the following:

• Possession of a POST Basic Certificate or greater.

POST Written Exam (Pellet B) & WSTB Scores (entry level only)

POST Certificate (lateral officers only)

The application is considered incomplete without any of the above-mentioned documents and will not be considered.  A resume may be submitted with the application but cannot take the place of the application.

Applicants' qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of the information provided on the employment application.    The exam process will consist of an oral interview and background Investigation process. The City reserves the right to use alternate testing procedures if deemed necessary.

Applicants (waived for laterals) who have taken and passed the P.O.S.T. written exam with a passing score of 48 or above must provide a letter on agency letterhead, stating that the individual has taken the P.O.S.T. test, date of the test, and t-score. Test dates older than one (1) year will not be accepted.  Social Security numbers are required to confirm test scores with P.O.S.T.  Test scores and test dates will be verified with P.O.S.T.

After reviewing the application, candidates who are successful in the screening process will be notified for the oral interview.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PROCESS:

Any candidate that is selected will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment process consisting of a background investigation, fingerprinting, pre-employment physical (to include drug and alcohol screening),  psychological examination, polygraph test and Chief's Interview prior to final appointment.  A copy of the City's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy is available upon request.

 

PROBATION:   

Twelve (12) month probationary period.

 

SALARY & INCENTIVE PAYS:

Entry Level with no POST Certified Basic Academy:

Entry level candidates who have not completed a POST Certified Basic Police Academy will be compensated at a rate of $28.04 per hour while in the Academy.   

Entry Level with completion of a POST Certified Basic Academy:

Entry level candidates who have completed a POST Certified Basic Police Academy will be compensated at the salary prescribed for first step officers in the Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Greenfield and the Greenfield Police Officer’s Association.

 

LATERAL OFFICERS:

Lateral officers with a POST Basic Certificate or greater will be compensated at the minimum prescribed salary for first step officers in the Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Greenfield and the Greenfield Police Officer’s Association.  Lateral officers may receive additional salary steps depending on experience.  Any additional salary steps are at the discretion of the Chief of Police and subject to the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Greenfield and the Greenfield Police Officers Association.             

POST CERTIFICATE PAY INCENTIVE:

• 2.5 % for POST Intermediate Certificate

• 5% for POST Advanced Certificate

*No employee may receive more than five percent (5%) as POST Certificate Incentive pay, nor shall an employee receive both a POST Certification Pay Incentive and an Education Pay Incentive. (MOU)

EDUCATION PAY INCENTIVE:

• 2.5% FOR Associate Degree

• 5% for Bachelor’s degree

* No employee may receive more than five percent (5%) as Education Incentive Pay, nor shall an employee receive both a POST Certification Pay Incentive and an Education Pay Incentive.

TUITION PAY INCENTIVE:

• City will reimburse employees for $1000 per year for authorized and accredited educational classes. (MOU)

BILINGUAL (SPANISH, TRIQUE, ETC) INCENTIVE PAY:  

2.5% of base salary.  Must pass a test and demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Chief of Police and City Manager, ability to speak Spanish, Trique, etc.  Employees who are able to competently speak a language identified in the MOU will be paid $75.00 per month.  

OVERTIME PAY:  

Overtime in excess of the standard 80 work period compensated at one and one half (1 ½) of the officer's hourly rate of pay.

SPECIALTY PAY:  

5% of base salary per specialty assignment with a maximum of 10% total Specialty Pay incentive.
