The City of Folsom welcomes candidates to apply for a temporary, part-time Administrative Support position in our Parks and Recreation department. At 25 hours per week, this position can be flexibly scheduled, but does require some evening and weekend work. This is your chance to support the City's diverse Parks and Recreation staff and programming!

Under the direction of the Administrative Assistant and other supervisors, perform basic computer operations: must be proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel; skilled in receptionist and telephone techniques; knowledge of customer service principles and practices; knowledge of record-keeping principles and procedures; knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and equipment; ability to conduct arithmetic calculations; ability to prioritize duties; ability to maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with coworkers and the public; ability to be accurate in carrying out written and oral instructions; ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; general knowledge of department programs. Great customer service and clerical skills are required.

Casual/Seasonal Part-Time positions are hourly and not eligible for benefits, and are limited to working 999 hours in a fiscal year. No full-time regular appointment will be made from this class. The salary range for this position is $16.00 - $21.00 per hour, with pay typically starting at $16.00.

 

Examples of Essential Duties
  • Assist the public in person or by phone, answering inquiries related to department services, programs, or operations.
  • Establish and maintain customer accounts.
  • Accurately process facility reservations, point-of-sale transactions, and activity registrations, using recreation software (RecTrac).
  • Balance individual cash drawer.
  • Various other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

 

Employment Standards
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and mature candidates 18 years old or older. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively through spoken and written means. 
  • Organize, prioritize and pace duties and tasks.
  • Follow oral and written directions.
  • Establish and maintain effective cooperative working relationships with coworkers and the public.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Minimum Qualifications

Education:  High school diploma or G.E.D., some college preferred 

Experience:  Great customer service and clerical skills are required. Previous experience in customer service, cash handling, and typical office environment preferred.

Physical Requirements: Work is performed in a typical office environment: frequent use of keyboard; sitting for long periods of time; occasional bending or squatting; frequently up to 10 pounds, occasionally up to 25 pounds; constant use of overall vision; frequent reading and close-up work; occasional color and depth vision;  repetitive motion; frequent writing; frequent grasping, holding, and reaching; frequent hearing and talking, in person and on the phone; frequent decision-making and concentration; frequent public and/or coworker contact; occasional working alone; frequent exposure to noise.

Certificates/Licenses:  Possession of a valid California Class C driver license.

Hours:  This position will be flexibly scheduled as needed, approximately 25 hours a week, and must be willing to work evenings and weekends. This position could be scheduled to work at City Hall, the Senior and Arts Center, the Andy Morin Sports Complex, the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary, and/or the Steve Miklos Aquatic Center.
