To collect and analyze information relevant to actual and anticipated criminal activity; prepare and disseminate information to operational personnel in the Police Department; perform administrative support activities to increase the effectiveness of patrol deployment, crime prevention and the apprehension of suspects; perform staff utilization and allocation studies. This position is for the Police Department and requires a thorough background investigation, polygraph, and a pre-employment medical exam to be completed on each final candidate, prior to appointment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from a Police Sergeant or Police Lieutenant.
Exercises lead direction, training and work review over part-time employees and volunteer staff.
Two (2) years of experience in data collection and statistical methods utilizing computerized databases, preferably in a law enforcement environment is required.
Bachelor's degree with specific coursework in statistics, research methods, and computer science is required. A combination of education, training and experience may be considered as substitution for a Bachelor's degree.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid California Class C driver's license are required.
A Crime and Intelligence Analysis Certificate is highly desirable.

Crime analysis and intel analysis. Analyze statistical and other data related to police activities to determine patterns and develop forecasts regarding future activity.
Develop reports, maps and graphs as required for in-house use in the effective deployment of staffing.
Systematic review of police reports; identify relevant crime data components and enter data into departmental computer.
Serve in a liaison capacity for matters related to crime analysis between the Police Department, other agencies and City departments, and community groups.
Assist in the preparation of grants, and quarterly and annual reports.
Assist Command Staff with oral reports at patrol and investigation briefings, command staff meetings and public meetings as required.
Maintain a variety of computerized and manual records related to police activity.
Conduct training in the use of crime analysis as required.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Modern methods and procedures used in crime and intelligence analysis.
Methods of collection, collation and analysis of statistics and relevant procedures in a police organization.
Computer hardware and software applications utilized in statistical analysis and report generation including Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, ESRI GIS and Structured Query Language, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint.
Basic research techniques.
CAD/RMS Database Design.
English grammar and sentence structure.
Basic California Vehicle and Penal Codes.
Knowledge of RIMS is desirable.
Prioritize and analyze specific detailed crime elements.
Administrate several third party online programs.
Recognize, identify, and document crime series and patterns.
Learn the necessary laws, policies and procedures associated with this position.
Prepare clear, concise, detailed statistical and narrative reports, both oral and written.
Make presentations to departmental staff, committees, boards, and community groups; effectively communicate complex information to others.
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other city employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
Work independently under pressure and exercise good judgment.
