The Public Safety Dispatcher performs in an environment of modern, automated public safety communications. This position serves police, fire, parks, and public works operations with an integrated Computer Assisted Dispatch (CAD) system. This position currently works twelve-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, with a rotation of three days on, four days off, four days on, three days off.
Public Safety Dispatcher I - This is the entry level class in the Public Safety Dispatcher series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. The Public Safety Dispatcher I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.
Public Safety Dispatcher II - This is the full journey level class in the Public Safety Dispatcher series and is distinguished from the I level by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.

A City of Davis on-line employment application, proof of POST Certificate or T-score if applicable, must be submitted to be considered for this position. The city will conduct the written test for Dispatcher in the fall of 2020. Based on passing the Dispatcher written test, and the information provided on the application form, resume, typing certificate, etc. the most qualified candidates will be invited to an oral interview. This interview will establish an eligibility list to be used by the Police Department to make the final selection. Candidates submitting a POST Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate, a certificate of graduation from a certified POST Public Safety Dispatcher Academy, or proof of completing the POST Dispatcher Test with a T-score of 50 or greater dated within 2 years, will not need to take the written test, but should submit their application with proof of certification to be considered.
