THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
 
The Ideal Camp Cook Candidate is someone who:
  • Possesses excellent customer service and communication skills;
  • Has the ability to work with staff of all ages;
  • Is detail oriented and is able to multi task;
  • Experience in: preparation and delivery of food for large groups; and
  • Possess a positive and professional demeanor.
 
THE POSITIONS:

The Camp Cook will assist the Food Service Coordinator in preparing and serving nutritious meals and in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dishwashing area.
 
Located in South Lake Tahoe, Camp Concord is a high energy Family and Group Rental Camp where everyone shares unique talents and abilities to accomplish goals as a team. Approximately 150 meals are served cafeteria style to campers and employees three times a day. This position plays a key role in the development and delivery of quality, nutritious meals on camp as well as at off­site venues such as local beaches and lakes.  Position includes meals and housing on camp during time of employment.
 
 Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Under the direction of the Food Service Coordinator and Camp Director, assist in creating a positive team environment.
  • Ability to work with all staff as a strong active team member to develop best work practices and problem solve.
  • Assist Food Service Coordinator to supervise, train and support kitchen staff. Oversee food service operations when Food Service Coordinator is unavailable.
  • Learn and follow kitchen routines and take initiative to increase knowledge of kitchen duties and practices.
  • Demonstrate proper knife handling and cutting, chopping and slicing techniques.
  • Daily preparation and cooking of various meal components while ensuring kitchen prep, cooking and cleaning tasks are completed in a timely manner and meet quality controls set by management.
  • Follow proper procedures for food receiving, handling and storage.
  • Maintains quality kitchen environment by practicing proper cleaning, safety, sanitation and organizational skills.
  • Have strong understanding and knowledge to properly use and maintain all kitchen equipment. Follow portion controls and presentation specifications as set by the Food Service Coordinator.
  • Under supervisions of the Food Service Coordinator, prepares large amounts of food? adjusts recipes by expanding or reducing amounts of ingredients.
  • Ensure timely preparation and serving of quality meals with ample selection and nutrition.
  • Ability to make meals to satisfy a variety of food allergies and preferences, including gluten free, vegetarians and vegans.
  • Ensure all aspects related to the Food Service Department are at or above minimum standards required by the California State Health Department.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on occasion and 35 lbs. regularly.
  • Must follow all staff policies and procedures to ensure a safe work and living environment.
  • Perform other duties as required.
 Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, able to multi­task, demonstrate excellent hospitality and customer service, and maintain grace under pressure. Experience in the preparation and delivery of food service for large groups, maturity, ability to work with staff of all ages and a positive attitude is a must.
 
Requirements­ Minimum age to apply: 18
 
  • Standard First Aid & Community CPR and AED certificate *Valid Driver's License. *TB clearance. *CA Food Handler  Card/ServSafe Certificate.
  • One year experience in large cafeteria or restaurant.
  • Must successfully participate in a mandatory, paid staff orientation training June 8th – 18th.
 
*Requirements must be obtained as a condition of employment. Necessary training and information can be provided.
Recommended –
  • Experience working with different age groups, including adults, teens and youth.
