HIRING DEPARTMENT:  Parks & Recreation

WORK LOCATIONS:  Willow Pass Center, 2748 E. Olivera Road, Concord and Centre Concord, 5298 Clayton Road, Concord

DATES:  September – June (Academic School Year)

DAYS:  Monday through Friday

HOURS:  Vary between 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; 20 hours per week

SALARY: Starting at $16.39/hour

Mandatory Training Requirement:  must be available to participate in mandatory training workshops between August 27, 2020 and August 31, 2020.

The Position
Under the direction of the After School site coordinators, the Childcare Recreation Specialist II will be in charge of planning, organizing, and leading activities in the areas of crafts, homework assistance, group games, and sports.  S/he must enthusiastically lead activities and be an active participant in activities.  The Childcare Recreation Specialist II will assist in various activities including enrichment classes, sports, games, and contests.  This position is responsible for training new recreation specialist hires. The future incumbent will be an excellent role model and mentor as well as a positive influence for elementary and middle school aged children.

 Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:
Plan, implement, and engage in recreational programs for elementary and middle school youth.
Gather and organize supplies for scheduled activities.           
Supervise and provide for the safety of children, for children in Kindergarten through 8th grade.             
Demonstrate a sound knowledge of good class management and youth development.           
Establish positive relationships with parents, youth, and staff.           
Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Education: high school diploma or the equivalent, supplemented by college coursework in early childhood education, recreation, or a related field.  The college coursework is required.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience leading activities in an after school, day care, day camp, or resident camp setting working with youth.  This experience is required.

Other requirements: Must be at least 18 years old and be available to attend all mandatory training workshops and to work the full hours of the program.  Must have, or be willing to obtain before start of program the following: CPR certification, First Aid Certificate, TB clearance, and fingerprint clearance.
