Building Official

Carmel-by-the-Sea is a city in the forest. A one-mile long pure white sandy beach.  A cultural mecca for the performing and visual arts. Superb dining and shopping experiences. A storybook setting! 

The City is searching for a building professional to work collaboratively and effectively with the development and residential community and with the city management team.  The Community Planning and Building Department is a service-oriented department that is charged with preserving and protecting community character while providing excellent customer service.

The City continues to experience growth in construction leading to an increase in building permits and development activity.  The ideal candidate will be a confident self-starter who does not require substantial oversight and is energized by a fast-paced setting and has a proven record of accomplishment of working well with internal and external stakeholders.

Typically, candidates will have some college-level coursework in building inspection, construction technology, civil engineering, or a related field and four years of progressively responsible experience in the design, construction and inspection of public, commercial, industrial and residential buildings including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.  Building Official certification is required for this position.  If you are interested in applying for this position, please submit an employment application and responses to the supplemental questionnaire no later than 5:00pm on Monday, March 8, 2021.
