IT Technician: Under general supervision, maintains, repairs, installs, and configures personal computer hardware and software, peripherals, telecommunications, and telephone equipment; works on projects supporting the implementation of new computer systems and technologies; provides desktop support of standard applications, workstations, and printers; performs limited system administration functions, and performs related work as required.
Typical Duties: Provides support for personal computer, network, and telecommunications systems; installs and configures personal computer hardware and software, support and troubleshoot user profile, email, voicemail, and desktop applications; installs and supports network printers, telephone stations, and related equipment; resolves personal computer and network problems; monitors and maintains file and print servers, email, and peripheral equipment; manages user accounts and mailboxes; maintains and supports intranet and internet web sites, including updates, graphics, and configuration of user applications; manages work orders; maintains City IT asset database; provides training to users; manage IT helpdesk ticketing queue; attend training sessions, and performs other related duties as required.
Ability to: Effectively maintain, configure and administer assigned computer, telecommunications, and related equipment; acquire a thorough knowledge of applicable hardware and software, acquire a working knowledge of department and City policies regarding information systems; effectively communicate technical information and to train staff; maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; and work extended or irregular hours.
Knowledge of: Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 10, Office 365, Microsoft Active Directory, database, and applications software; data communications/network systems; network-based services including email, printing, back-ups, anti-virus, and security; operating characteristics, capabilities, limitations, and service requirements of personal computers and related peripheral equipment; basic electronics methods, parts, and tools used in the maintenance and repair of a variety of electronic and communications systems including telephone, voice mail, and related systems; and current information technology products and developments.
Education and Experience: Equivalent to an Associate Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, information systems, business administration, or a related field, and three years of increasingly responsible experience supporting applicable information systems. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for the desired education on a year-for-year basis for up to two years.
Possession of: A valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
